Helaine primarily works with clay.  What she loves about making her sculptural statements is the evolution of the idea.  It is that journey which gives her joy and keeps her motivated. Her subject usually emanates from a fascination with the idea of dichotomy; All ideas have two parts.  When one half of an idea is thought, its opposite exists simultaneously:  Up/Down, Light/Dark, Good/Bad, Life/Death, etc.
